Day of Action for Ammanford town centre

Posted By Robert Lloyd

Carmarthenshire Council officers will be in Ammanford town centre on Wednesday, September 5, raising awareness of littering.

Council staff will be on hand giving free portable ashtrays, chewing gum wraps and advice, encouraging the public to do the right thing and dispose of their litter correctly and not to drop litter on the streets.

Officers will be informing the public on how they can report incidents and pass on information through our online channels.

Council Environmental Enforcement Officers will also be out on patrol and will be speaking to residents and traders in the area.

Smoking related litter is one of the most prevalent types of litter and is time consuming and expensive to clean up.

As well as being unsightly, cigarette butts leak toxins that contaminate water and harm marine life and the environment.

Chewing gum litter is another concern on the county’s streets, it not only stains our pavements making our communities look grubby but sticks to our clothes and shoes and is incredibly expensive to remove.

If you are caught dropping litter, including cigarette and chewing gum litter you can face a £75 fixed penalty fine.

Please come along and use this opportunity to chat to council officers – to help tackle litter problems together!
